I know that it has been quite some time since I have made a blog post. I apologize for my absence as I am working to find balance and improve my time management skills. Please pray for me; it is a process, ha-ha. During my time away, I have been focusing on ways to better take care of myself. I often found myself feeling overwhelmed and in need of a routine that would help me calm my mind, relax, and unwind. Here are my 5 Ways to Relax and Unwind. I hope you enjoy it.

1. A Glass of Wine and a Movie

After a long and stressful day, I will occasionally pour myself a glass of my favorite wine and will watch a romantic comedy. I love a great romantic comedy, new or old. A classic one for me is Pretty Woman. I am a Moscato girl and generally prefer a sparkling Moscato. My absolute favorite bottle of wine is Marco Negri Moscato d’Asti. This wine has a low alcohol content and has the perfect balance of fizz and sweetness. It is like joy in a bottle and tastes divine. A great movie and a glass of wine do the trick every time.

2. Bubble Bath/ Shower

Taking a nice warm bubble bath or shower is very calming and relaxing. I like to throw on my favorite playlist and let the beautiful scents from my bath bombs and shower gels take me away. I love using Lush and Bath and Body Works products. I am obsessed with the way the aroma of both products permeates the air. I have several bath bombs from Lush, but my favorite is Deep Sleep. Deep Sleep turns your bath water into a beautiful purple that is truly a sight to see. When trying to relax, I like to use products that smell like lavender, and this bath bomb is made with lavender oil and lavender flowers. The Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy line is something I love to use when trying to unwind. Sleep- Lavender Vanilla and Eucalyptus Spearmint Body Wash and Bath Foams are my go-to products. The way these products foam and smell is fantastic. I am left feeling rejuvenated after taking my bath or shower.

3. Reading a Book

Reading has been very beneficial for me and surprisingly calming. It is my little escape from reality. I enjoy reading personal development/ self-help books, as I feel that they strengthen my mind and enhance my critical thinking skills. I just finished Essentialism-The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, and it was a game-changer for me. This book taught me that I should only focus on the things that have importance in my life, and sometimes by trying to do it all, we end up doing nothing. I love reading Jen Sincero’s Bad Ass series, and I am currently reading You Are a Badass at Making Money. The hilarious way that she provides information is why I continue to read her books. Reading is indeed fundamental, haha.

4. Guided Meditation

I have found mediation to be extremely helpful when trying to ease my mind. I often have difficulty sleeping due to my thoughts running a mile a minute. I find myself thinking about what I could have done to solve the day’s problems. I am a self-proclaimed perfectionist who feels that my work is never done. It is challenging for me to rest until I find a solution to any problems that may have taken place throughout the day. Now, you see the importance of finding something that could keep me centered and release some of the self-inflicted stress. Guided meditation has done wonders for my mental health.

5. Music

Music is my therapy. I have a playlist for every emotion and situation. Music helps me get through any and everything. Music does something for me that is difficult to explain. It improves my overall mood. When I want to relax and unwind, I know that turning off the lights, lighting candles, and throwing on an excellent slow playlist will provide the calming atmosphere I need. I enjoy listening to 90’s R&B when wanting to relax. Listening to songs like Pretty Girl by Jon B, Ready or Not by After 7 and Seven Whole Nights by Toni Braxton, always does the job.

Self-care is so important. It took me a while to truly understand the damage that I was doing to myself both mentally and physically when I allowed stress to overwhelm me completely. Taking time to relax and unwind has helped me be a more productive and overall healthy person. I hope that you can take some of these ideas and add them to your relax and unwind routine.
